In-Home Visits from Santa Pete
Santa Pete will again be making in-home visits during this Christmas season. If you would like to schedule one, please use the Events tab on this website. It's best to schedule your in-home visit as soon as possible. SP will be very busy this year!
When SP makes an in-home visit, the Host should have a small, wrapped gift for each child, with their name written CLEARLY on the outside. Also, the Host should email SP before the event, describing each child and providing the name of each child. The gifts should be placed in the garage. It's probably more convenient if the Host pays with Pay Pal. If not, leave a check for SP outside with the gifts. Most people join several families together to share the cost. It's best when there are 9-12 children. When SP arrives, it's nice if he can park INSIDE the garage, where he can change into his suit, and load the gifts into his bag.
After he gets dressed and the gifts are in his bag, he usually just comes in the back door of the house unannounced. If you would like, he can come to the front door and ring the bell. The Host should provide a chair for SP to sit in for pictures. Remember to think about what's BEHIND the chair, and take a few pictures beforehand, to check the lighting and background.
Remember that very young children are sometimes traumatized by SP. If your child is prone to this, it's best if the parents are NOT overly excited. Just let SP ease into the room, usually ignoring the skittish child. Let SP take his time to ingratiate himself to the little one. He's had pretty good success so far, only failing with a few children.
SP will usually just visit with the children casually. Sometimes he gets down on the floor to do this. Children love it! Maybe he'll sing a song or two with the children, or read a story to them. Then, at the appropriate time, SP will get up on the chair the Host provides. He'll then get one gift at a time and call that child to sit on his knee and open the gift. This is a great photo-op. Photographer should not attempt to pose the picture, just snap-snap-snap away. Most of the best photos are when the child is looking at SP! When the time is right, SP will have the child "pose" for a photo.
After all the individual photos are made, SP will ask the Host if they want family photos, photos with siblings, or other group photos. After all photos are made, it's time for SP to make his exit. Usually, he'll sing one last song with the children. Then it's "Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas!" and out the door.
